reyter is a small family-run winery nestled in Gries, near Bolzano/Bozen, surrounded by beautiful Lagrein vineyards. Within the municipality of Bolzano, there are three historic “Reiter” farms: Reiter in Campegno/Kampenn, Reiter in S. Pietro/St. Peter, and Reiter in S. Giorgio/St. Georgen. The name “Reiter” originates from the early activities of the owners, who transformed land into arable vineyards for others, a process known as “Neuraut” in German, meaning new vineyard area, which eventually inspired the name “Reiter.”
Josef Unterhofer, fondly known as “Reiter Sepp” and the relinquishing heir of the Reiter farm in Campegno, founded a new estate in Gries in 1986, naming it reyter in reference to ancient documents. In 1996, his son Christoph assumed management of the estate and has been cultivating it organically ever since.
At our farm, we rely exclusively on spontaneous fermentation for all our wines, as this method best reflects the unique characteristics of the grape varieties and their origins. Our wine selection includes Lagrein and Lagrein Rosé, Vernatsch, Chardonnay, and a PIWI white wine.
The next generation is already bringing fresh energy to the winery, with dedication, innovative ideas, and youthful enthusiasm. Together, we are dedicated to continuing our cherished traditions while also exploring new horizons.
